My birthday winner...

Emailed me last night at 7:23 (coincidentally) and got a gift certificate for $33. I just finished proofing her kids' session, and have a few new favorites, including this one:

Thanks to everyone who emailed me and wished me a happy birthday! Your wishes made me smile!

It's my birthday!

And as anyone in my family will tell you, I'm ALL about getting spoiled on your special day. Today, however, I'm giving the gifts! The person who is the _____ (yeah, that's what number I am--I turned my favorite number today!) person to email me, gets something special!

(Birthday wishes also accepted. *wink*)

Browns and Blondes

Midway through our session today, the mom of these beautiful kids remarked that her kids don't even look like brother and sister. True, I thought, as each definitely takes after one parent. Yet they both have the most amazing eyes, even though so differently colored. I also think they seem very alike personality-wise with their gentle natures and relaxed temperments.

And they all look fantastic in brown, don't they?

Soles of souls

As those of you who have done a baby session with me know, there's rarely a session that I don't grab at least one shot of baby feet. Trust me, I have the farthest thing from a foot fetish considering I think they become pretty gross once babies turns into toddlers, but today's session seemed appropriate to end with a family foot portrait. After all, there is something quite distinctive about our own family's feet, and as much as I hate to be so purposeful with a pun--so soulful about them as well.

Bubbles & Birthdays

This handsome little guy is celebrating his first birthday. I love to bring bubbles along on my shoots for my more serious subjects, but what was particularly cute today was watching this birthday boy discover them for the first time. I have the feeling it's the start of many more sticky bubble finger days for him!

I hope he has a fantastic first birthday! (And yeah, I can't help but showcase his more serious side with those big blue eyes.)

6,343 miles

That would be how many miles separate Guatemala and Russia. But in a tiny corner here in Pennsylvania, there's none. Miss K only joined her brother a few months ago, but other than her darker complexion compared with his ultra fair one, you could never tell that at one time they had ever been separated by 6,343 miles. What a joy to capture them as a family!

Perhaps they should name him Thomas?

I'm not going to take the blame if that baby boy in her beautiful belly decides to develop a Thomas the Train obsession in about 3 years, as I am pretty sure that Thomas is an innate addiction that all little guys go through (I can attest to this, trust me, and so can the cashiers at Toys R Us :). But I think that this old train depot in Kutztown was just a fantastic location for a couple expecting their first baby, and I am particularly pleased that they were so easy going with me and my ideas (not limited to fans hooked up to portable electrial outlets and fields by obscure, but heavily traveled, roads... :)

I wish them much sleep and good wishes over the coming days before their little non-Thomas arrives. I am looking forward to meeting him and taking his first portraits. All aboard the train to parenthood, C&J. You'll love the ride!

One ounce shy of 10 pounds

This session was extra special because this baby was born to close friends of ours. And I must admit that I have a certain fondness for chunky newborns considering he's just one ounce heavier than my last one. My heartiest congratulations go out to my friends. You have been so blessed with beautiful boys. We are thrilled for you!

A whole hand plus one finger

Sweet S turned 6 today, and I had the pleasure of catching candid moments at her birthday party. When my little girl turned 6 last month, I made her promise not to turn 7, which she refused with a giggle.

Six. There's just something different about it than 5. Watching our little ones grow up sure is simultaneously amazing and heartbreaking. Funny how it doesn't seem to be affecting her, however. Based upon that bright smile, I have a feeling she'd refuse to turn 7, too.

Happy birthday!

And she thought this was going to be difficult

I booked this appointment several months ago, and if I remember correctly, spent quite some time listening to Mom tell me how she thought Miss C was probably not going to cooperate and would be extremely difficult to photograph. So I arrived this morning with my cup of hesitation and my pre-camera stage fright (yeah, my 47th appointment this year, and I still wonder if I'm going to blow the shoot) and I meet this very precocious nearly-3 year old who went on tell me about her dog jumping over the fence and purple dinosaurs. And within 30 minutes, I had also figured out that she's a sucker for blue lollipops and loves bubbles--just not in the bottle.

The baby's adorably cute, too, isn't she? I'm not sure how she feels about dinosaurs, lollipops or bubbles, but I do know that she loves keys. I've got the spitty ones to prove it!

I just *heart* babies

Honestly, how could you not when you get so lucky to take pictures of beautiful ones like her? Is she not breathtaking with the cutest little nose? Everything about her--even her balding man's hairline!--is endearing. I loved capturing all her petite details...

She's the product of an amazing family that I had the honor to photograph a few weeks ago when she was still inside: I'm glad I was asked to come back to meet her!

Small bundle

This amazing little guy hasn't even hit his due date yet, arriving two months early. As you can see, he's doing tremendously well, and based on how calm and great his mom was with him today, he's only bound to continue to thrive. I continue to feel so fortunate to be chosen to capture portraits of just-born babies. I must admit that I hold a special place in my heart for newborns, and this sweet little guy is now taking up residence there. I truly hope his mom is pleased!

Never-met friends

These were taken for a friend of mine, whom I've never met. We met nearly 7 years ago while both pregnant for the first time on a message board, and along with scores of other women, we've remained close friends since. She and I know lots about each other, even more about each other's kids, yet we've never met until today. I truly hope I've made her happy, and I was SO happy to have finally met her and her beautiful family.
